The United States Bowling Congress Board of Directors has decided to post-
pone any changes in the awards program for one year, and has promised to
review the previously announced “once-in-a-lifetime” proposal during that time.
That means the awards program currently in place for the 2007-2008 season
will remain in place for 2008-2009 while the entire program is once again reviewed.
USBC offers 300-game rings, and 7-10 split patches. But is there an award for
bowling a 37?? There should be, especially if the bowler who performed the feat
happens to be as high-profile a personality as Democratic presidential hopeful
Barack Obama. Obama’s now-famous 37, bowled at the Pleasant Valley Recreation
Center in Altoona,Pa., in late March, likely garnered the sport more national
recognition than Jermey Sonnenfeid’s then unique 900 series in 1997 . In fact
Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton seized the opportunity to challenge
Obama to a roll-off. “My economic plan is better than my bowling,”
Obama assures the fellow bowlers.
