What may be happening is that you simply are drifting right on the approach
rather than walking straight. During your practice sessions, take special
notice of where you start on the approach and where you end up. Once
you have a good idea of how straight you walk, you can compare your
starting and ending positions on those errant shots.
One of the easiest ways to slow down the approach is to think,”heel to toe,”
on each step of your delivery. If you make sure that the heel of each foot
touches the surface before the toe, and practice that until it becomes natural,
it will help slow down the speed of your approach. This procedure will benefit
you in another way as well. It will help keep your back straight until the knee
bend and release on the last step of your approach. This is not a easy procedure
to develop, so I would advise you to plan some additional practice sessions
during the off-season.
