Mentally Tough

Behaviors and beliefs about yourself, your work, your sport, and how you interact.
A person who is mentally tough looks at competition as a challenge to rise up to rather
than a threat to back down from. Like physical skills, mental toughness can be
learned through quality instruction and practice.
A mental sound competitor will take bad shots, breaks and use them to drive themselves
that much harder. Someone who is a quitter will use these things as defeat and
give up.(not mental tough)
Confident athletes have a strong mental can-do attitude, believing they can handle
whatever comes their way. They almost never fall victim to self-defeating thoughts.
Successful athletes are able to control their emotions and behavior. They focus on
what they can control and don’t allow things that are out of their control to affect them.
The hallmark of mentally tough athletes is the ability to maintain poise, concentration
and emotional control under the greatest pressure and the most challenging situations.
Mentally tough athletes focus their time and energy on their goals and dreams.
They are self-directed and highly motivated. They never thank that any problem
will defeat them. Mentally tough athletes know how to stay focused and deal with
adversity. How a player manages their emotions can determine whether they win or lose.
A mentally tough player will say to himself, “OK, if I’ve got to beat the other guy
and the pins too, then fine – I’ll do that.”
A mentally tough athlete must be willing to take a risk. That’s what peak performers do.
As the philosopher said, it take courage to grow up and to achieve your full potential.
Mentally tough athletes posses an inner strength. They often play their best when
they’re feeling their worst. They don’t make excuses just deal with the satiation and
make the best of it.
Competition is won or lost by the mental attitude of the athlete. Practice mental toughness.
Learn to love the competition.

Lining up/Adjustments

Lining Up”
All Top Level bowlers have enough talent to hit the pocket. They have practice and
bowled extremely hard to bring there physical game to have this innate ability.
The difference between the “Good” bowlers and the “Great” bowlers is in their abilities
to “Line-Up” and “Adjust” properly when the lanes conditions changes, which we all
know happen regularly even during one game.
Lining-Up properly will result in above average pin-carry. “Pin=carry” is NOT “how often” that
you hit the pocket; IT IS “HOW” you hit the pocket.
1. Being Lined-Up properly.
2. Good execution.
3. Using the right ball.
“LINE-UP” according to your particular game!!!
Being properly lined-up WILL result in better pin-carry and entry to the pocket,
and will result in a higher percentage of striking.
NOT being properly lined-up will result in less pocket hitting percentage, and result
in less striking percentage. It’s just that simple.
Even though your pocket percentage may be the same as those ahead of you on
the leader board, your strike percentage will be lower because of “Correction Shots”
that you made at the Foul-Line from NOT being properly lined up.

“Adjustments”
Bowling lanes are very unstable due to lane surface wear and the extremely thin
coating of lane oil, also weather play’s apart. Oil is simply a liquid that will move
as the ball continues to roll through it.
ADJUSTMENTS ARE NECESSARY.
When making adjustments, YOU MUST STAY IN “YOUR” OWN GAME.
For instance, if you are a “tween-er” it is NOT WISE to suddenly think that you
can “open-up” the lane and become a “cranker” (stay with in your own game and
make adjustments).
ALWAYS STAY IN YOUR COMFORT ZONE. Make parallel moves – even if that means
changing balls. Changing balls, and knowing how ALL of your equipment reacts, is important.

ALWAYS KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING. ALWAYS KNOW EXACTLY WHAT
THE LANES ARE DOING. (STAY FOCUSED).

YOU MUST KNOW IF IT IS THE “LANES”, OR IF IT IS “YOU”. ONCE YOU KNOW, “THEN” YOU CAN MAKE THE PROPER ADJUSTMENTS.
