Bowling Trivia:
The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame has replicas of artifacts for a game similar to bowling which were found in the tomb of an ancient Egyptian youth who died approximately 5,200 BC.
Ancient Polynesians rolled stones at objects from a distance of 60 feet (18.29 meters) – the same distance as from foul line to headpin.
Every Ball Counts, Every Pin Counts
PBA US Open Championship Match, Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011
After struggling with the feel of the ball, then leaving a solid 8 pin, Norm Duke finished his game with four consecutive strikes, to force Mika Koivuniemi to mark in the 10th. Mika threw a great shot but left a solid 10 pin. One of the best spare-shooters in professional bowling shockingly missed the single-pin, giving Duke the win.
“I had conceded the match. I knew the last four strikes were important, because you never know what’ll happen. … I sat there stunned, shocked,” Duke said. “I knew I had just won the U.S. Open, but at that moment, my only thought was Mika had lost. I was just like a fan watching in the living room. How could you not feel badly for him?
