The positive axis point (PAP) of the ball you throw down the lane is often different
from that of a pre-drilled ball. Your personal PAP can be found and marked as follows.
A. Thoroughly wipe thr oil off your ball track.
B. Throw your normal hook ball as you would for a strike, but throw ot down the
oiliest part of the lane to get a more visible oil track on the ball.
C. Make the track more visible by drawing along it with a grease crayon all the
way around the ball. If your track flares, draw the line along the track line closet
to the holes and follow that line all the way around the ball. The reason for
drawing the highest track is because as the ball travels, the track migrates
downward, away from the holes, so the highest track is created by the earlest rev,
which is what we want for our PAP.
D. Place the ball on a ball cup/ashtray with the holes facing you (righthander) finger
holes to your left (lefthander) finger holes to your right. Then slowly rotate the ball
at the same time adjusting its position as it turnes until the line you.ve drawn
stays horizontally level all the way arounf the ball.
E. With the ball now resting in this position, visually locate what is now the exact
top center of the ball and stick a piece of tape on the spot. This marks the PAP
of your balls, rotation every time you throw that strike ball as you threw
it originally.
